Powertec gym equipment. The single station Powertec Stack Drive System (P-SDS) is a 2 station home gym also known as the Powertec Selectorized Leverage System.
If you are familiar with Powertec gym equipment or you have read the our reviews of the Powertec WB-LS or Powertec WB-MS you will know that Powertec generally cater for the big lifter.
In their infinite wisdom, Powertec have decided to offer the P-SDS especially for those of us who are traditional home gym machine enthusiasts.
Although the P-SDS has a weight stack and is black rather than the traditional Powertec yellow, it still has the tell tale Powertec characteristics.......impressive linkage and lever systems.
Equipment
-
black, powder coated, heavy steel frame
-
230 lb weight stack with guard
-
heavy duty vinyl covered, thick high density foam padded, bench with patented adjustable linkages
-
lat pulldown bar, short curl bar and cable handle
-
barbell attachment for press station
-
leg extension for quadriceps (front of thigh)
-
lying 2 legged hamstring curl (back of thigh). This is a big bonus because for most home gyms the bench can't be put in a flat position. Meaning hamstrings can only be done standing, one leg at a time....and that's slow
-
lat pulldown for back or triceps (back of arm)
-
press station with height adjustable lever arms for chest or shoulders or triceps or back
-
low row for back or shoulders or inner/outer thigh or butt or triceps or
biceps (front of arm)
-
training wall chart
Size
The size is a little bit bigger than average for this type of gym but the payoff is a fully adjustable bench and a solid frame.
86"(length) x 40"(width) x 84"(height) and the weight is 440lbs
Warranty
The usual warranty on Powertec's home gyms is lifetime on the frame and 2 years on parts
Pros
-
a very versatile bench that goes flat. This means not only lying hamstring curls but incline and decline bench press, military press, crunches and you can even stand behind the bench for shoulder shrugs and triceps pushdowns
-
the low row is next to the weight stack. This is good because often the low row is in front of the leg extension and to change the load you must get up off the floor, walk to the weight stack and then walk back again
-
top quality materials and design
-
heavier than average weight stack (230lbs compared to the usual 210lbs)
-
comes with training wall chart
-
it has a low row. This is really just an advantage over Powertec'sWB-MS (also reviewed by Home Gym Review) which doesn't have any cables
Cons
-
it doesn't include an ankle strap for your thigh/butt exercises at the low row station. Of course you can easily buy one but with these type gyms they are usually a standard accessory
-
price. This gym is a little pricey.
Overall
The P-SDS is a nice gym but there are gyms of equal quality at a much lower price. The one feature that really gives this gym an edge is the bench. It can be declined which is uncommon.
So the question is "How important is a declinable bench to me?".
If the answer is "Its important" then you have found your gym.
If the answer is "Its not so important" then keep looking.
