Powertec gyms are earning a reputation as some of the best. When it comes to leverage, Powertec gyms are the best. This 3 station, yellow beauty is one of them.
The Powertec WB-MS is a real gym junkie machine. When I say gym junkie I mean experienced, frequent, serious, big lifters. The kind of guys and gals that would never be satisfied with the 210lb weight stack of a regular gym. The kind of guys and gals who understand the unique mass building value of heavy squats.
If you want to lift big then listen to this. On the Powertec MB-MS you can lift:
- 800lbs on the press
- 800lbs on the squat
- 500lbs on the lat pulldown
- 300lbs on the leg extension
- 300lbs on the arm curl
- 300lbs on the seated row
- 300lbs on the ab crunch
Is that enough for you? If not then maybe you would be better off going into the nearest car park and lifting a small car!!
Another feature (or absence of) that sets this gym apart from the crowd is that there are no pulleys or cables. That means less wear and tear and less time and money spent on maintenance. Using a gym with slack cables can get on your nerves because the first part of the exercise is wasted taking up the slack. Ain't gonna happen here.
Equipment
- powder coated, heavy steel frame
- high density foam padded, adjustable benches

- preacher curl bar/seated row bar
- press station for chest or shoulders or triceps (back of arm)

- seated row for back and rear shoulders
- leg extension for quadriceps (front of thigh)
- squat station for legs and calves and butt and lower back
- ab station for abs and hip flexors

Size
Its not such a big gym at 85"(length) x 71"(width) x 74"(height)
The foot print may not be so big but the unloaded frame is heavy at 321lbs
Warranty
The standard warranty for Powertec home gyms is lifetime on the frame and 2 years on parts
Pros
- The design of the squat station is superb. Once you get used to leaning back at the bottom of the squat you will love it. It feels very safe because the shoulder pads move down your back as you descend making it easy to keep your back straight. Kind of like the combination of a sissy squat, hack squat and regular squat (if you can imagine that)
- no spotter required. You can never become trapped under the bar because the range of motion of the squat means you can get out from underneath it if you can't push back up. And the press arms are U-shaped such that your body is in the centre of the "U" with no cross bar to trap you
- you can lift huge loads in plenty of different exercises
- excellent quality materials and design. The linkage system is patented.
- not big
Cons
- no cables. I know we said that can be a good thing but some people like myself use cables all the time
- you need your own weights. No big deal but its an extra expense and you will need somewhere to store them
Overall
While the WB-MS may rank among the best home gyms it is really suited for strong lifters. Lifters that are limited by the weight stack of a regular home gym or who want to train heavy but don't have a training partner.
Of course it isn't limited to only these types of trainers.

If you don't need to lift huge or you're not only interested in mass building then a regular home gym like the Body Solid EXM-2500S is worth a look.
